While her famous sister, Kate Middleton, got more attention when she married England’s future king, younger sister Pippa Middleton is receiving a fair share of action from betting companies on her Saturday wedding to James Matthews.
Paddy Power, Coral and Ladbrokes all are offering proposition bets on the nuptials.
The British Tabloids are calling this “The Society Wedding of the Year,” and rumors are stating that the cost of the celebration is going to be around $300,000. That is about 15 times the cost of an average UK wedding.
The 33-year-old has kept much of the details of her upcoming union to James Matthews a secret. Speculation and wagering opportunities have been rampant at online wagering sites.
Odds on Favorite
The biggest action seems to be on Middleton’s dress, both bride and expected maid of honor. Pippa’s designer has been rumored to be everyone from Vera Wang to Giles Deacon.
Odds makers are staying away from that, but they do have a line on the color. Paddy Power has white as the overwhelming choice at 1-20. The next pick is red at 9-1. Her sister’s gown has purple at 5-4, blue at 6-4 and pink at 9-2.
The other popular topic is who will be at the ceremony and reception. The church holding the event is small and the guest list is limited.
Reportedly there was a “no ring, no bring” policy by the bride, saying only married or engaged couples were going to be on the guest list. Actress Meghan Markle, who is the girlfriend of Prince Harry was a 3-1 pick to be at the service despite not having any marital status.
Queen Elizabeth was a lock last year to be in attendance. Coral had her at 1-2. Recently, however, the matriarch has been bet down to 7-1, as the press has reported she won’t be there.
Unique Prop Bets
Paddy Power, the irreverent bookmaking site, has lived up to its reputation with some unusual and humorous wagers.
Spencer Matthews is the groom’s younger brother and assumed best man. He is a reality television star and once claimed to have slept with 1,000 women.
His bawdy reputation has created a 10-11 bet that he will swear during the best man’s speech. He is also a 30-1 selection to get kicked out of the church.
Guessing what the first song will be is also available. “Truly Madly Deeply” is even money. For those wanting to take a chance, MC Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This,” is 200-1 and Coolio’s “Gangstas Paradise” is 500-1.
