Michael, I know exactly what you mean. We used to go to see live shows for… well, the show! To be fair, modern club appearances are vastly different than concert venues. Performances are often just pre-recorded music and lip-syncing of 1 or 2 numbers. The DJs spend hours hyping the crowd for a 10-minute ordeal.
]]>Very interesting tidbit about this Cardi B… Contrast that 15 minutes with what I have seen with my own eyes, The Grateful Dead: 3 hour show, The Rolling Stones: 2 hours, Bruce Springsteen: 2 hours, Pink Floyd: 2 hours, and Wayne Newton: 2 hours… The only show of those I mentioned that had a usurious admission price was The Rolling Stones at MGM Grand Arena, the face value of the tickets in 2008 was $500…
]]>The purpose of hiring the marquee name is to create the all important prestige-feeling for the guests. What matters is the perception of exclusivity and that no expense is spared on “the time of your life.” Setting this tone helps young guests rationalize even more Vegas things that are “the best that money can buy.”
These DJ’s are just an opening salvo. RW needs a jump-start to launch the formula. Once it finds a stride, the marqs will thin. I mean, Cardi B performances at Kaos were 15 minutes, and trust me when I say that was more than enough.
]]>I am far from an expert, but a successful club in Vegas prints money. And the premier club is gonna print tons of money. So, by signing a premeir dj, the hope is that when RW opens, the party moves to RW. And Los Angeles party people are gonna drive to Vegas to be at RW. And all the execs at RW get bonuses so big, their bank accounts have to have bank accounts. I mean, thats the dream. Its obviously a megarisky one. But, in short, “we got a dj” isn’t gonna move the party to RW. But the hope is “RW got THE dj” will.
And honestly, I agree with you. Its crazy that a dj can get this kind of money. But its also crazy to me what people will pay for a designated place to sit and a bottle of vodka inside of a Vegas nightclub.
When MGM OVER PAID HIM and his kind, and THE PALMS followed that down the rabbit hole, they set a BAD precedent.
Resorts World should hire an IN HOUSE DJ and see where that gets them. Because NO ONE is hiring these weasels during the COVID-19 shut down, so it’s a Buyers Market, these Over priced DJ’s lost their worth.
IF Resorts World is well managed then they won’t pay these these workers as PARTNERS, they are simply EMPLOYEES. I don’t care how much money they bring in, RW spent ALL the money to build that room.
